When state lawmakers return to Tallahassee next week for the start of the legislative session, Governor Charlie Crist will ask them for 32-and-a-half million dollars to try to attract aerospace companies to Central Florida. The governor talked about some of his incentive plans at a Space Industry Summit in Orlando last week.
NASA's space shuttle program will be ending later this year and many on the Space Coast hope private firms will move in to the area and employ some of the thousands of workers who'll be laid off.
90.7 economic analyst Hank Fishkind says private industry can help fill the vacuum that will be left when the shuttle is grounded and, he says, the cash infusion proposed by Governor Crist would help.
